John Tierney is a British artist who lives in Durham City in the north east of England.

For many years he has been a regular visitor to Los Angeles, producing a large portfolio of work inspired by the architecture and culture of the city. He is particularly interested in the eclectic nature of the cityscape along with the intensity of the light. Working in oils, his aim is to create paintings that provide a strong sense of place, a feeling of what it is like to be there.

The popularity of his work is reflected in the number of solo exhibitions in LA and other cities over the years. All of his work is hand drawn and painted on stretched canvas in oils.

Influences include Edward Hopper and David Hockney.

Until 2010 he was Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Durham University and his retirement allowed him to paint on a full-time basis.
